PFT: Chiefs officially cut L.J.

As reported first right here, the Chiefs have officially cut running back Larry Johnson.
Here's the full text of the release: "The Kansas City Chiefs released RB Larry Johnson on Monday. In 75 games (55 starts) with Kansas City, Johnson rushed
1,375 times for 5,996 yards (4.4 avg.) with 55 touchdowns. He also registered 151 receptions for 1,369 yards (9.1 avg.)
with six TDs. He concluded his Chiefs career with 30 100-yard rushing games and also added two 100-yard receiving
games.
"Johnson established an NFL single-season record with 416 rushing attempts in 2006 when he set a franchise
single-season mark with 1,789 rushing yards. He originally entered the league as the Chiefs first-round selection (27th
overall) in the 2003 NFL Draft out of Penn State."

Chiefs lose 24-21 against the Jags

Chiefs WR Chris Chambers,
who was picked up off waivers from the Chargers on Tuesday, paid
immediate dividends with three catches for 70 yards and two touchdowns.
... With Larry Johnson suspended, Kansas City ran the ball only 14
times and split those carries between Jamaal Charles (six), Kolby Smith (four) and Dontrell Savage (two). ... Maurice Jones-Drew scored his 11th touchdown of the season -- tops in the league.

Crone: Chiefs’ failures all start at the top

During the past bye week for the Kansas City Chiefs, local pundits have dissected the past 20 years of the team.
Many blame Carl Peterson and Herm Edwards for the ridiculously poor
state of the franchise. Others have already determined that the Scott
Pioli-Todd Haley team is a bust with two huge egos and guys that are in
over their heads.
Still others have placed the blame on Peterson and Dick Vermeil for
developing a lopsided offensive football team. Last but not least, some
have pointed to the era of Peterson-Gunther Cunningham-Marty
Schottenheimer as pivotal because they held onto players beyond their
prime.
Harry Truman’s coined phrase “the buck stops here” is what truly
applies. The Hunt family has been ineffective in running the franchise.
They have marketed the team as the heartbeat of Kansas City – and it is.
However, in running the team’s everyday operation, they have been
lacking. Lamar Hunt, father of the AFL, did a superb job of developing
the franchise. He literally changed the football landscape forever.
Somewhere along the line, other more progressive NFL teams passed the
Chiefs. Under Clark Hunt, the team seems to be wandering in the
wilderness. Clark has a substantial soccer background, not football.
Fans may feel that Pioli and Haley are in over their heads but the
young owner may be as well.

PFT: More information on Chambers's off-field issues comes to light
|
When the Chargers cut Chris Chambers earlier this week, the wide receiver intimated, without giving any details, that it had more to do with off-field issues than a desire to give more playing time to Malcolm Floyd and Legedu Naanee.
Now
some details have come to light about the messy situation that
Chambers, now a member of the Chiefs, was dealing with in his personal
life. Chambers filed for divorce from his wife this summer, a few
months after his soon-to-be ex-wife Christina told San Diego police
that she was being harassed by a woman named Stacey Saunders. Chambers
admitted in court documents that he had a romantic relationship with
Saunders and then filed for a restraining order against her.
The San Diego Union-Tribune has the details of Chambers's allegations against Saunders.

PFT: Chiefs emerge from bye week with new message
|
With the Larry Johnson saga taking so long to play out, the Chiefs had a more eventful bye week than most teams.
The full squad is back in Kansas City and preparing for this week's game. The Twitter account of a team employee showed a new sign that greeted players upon their return.
"Losers
assemble in small groups and complain about the coaches and other
players," the sign reads. "Winners assemble as a team and find ways to
WIN." (The sign also has the word "team" placed over the Chiefs logo.)

Williamson: Fans don't want Johnson to get record
|
|
Embattled Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson is 75 yards from becoming the team's all-time leading rusher. And some Chiefs fans have a problem with that. An
online petition started by Chiefs fans asks general manager Scott Pioli
to deactivate Johnson and keep him on the sideline so he cannot pass
Priest Holmes for the team rushing record, or join the team's Ring of
Honor at Arrowhead Stadium. Holmes holds the Chiefs' rushing record with 6,070 yards; Johnson currently has 5,996 yards. "While
we are thankful for his service, we feel that Larry has been a black
eye on the organization and has no business being mentioned" among the
team's all-time greats, the petition reads.
As of Wednesday afternoon ET, at least 1,400 signatures had been collected. continue reading...

Chiefs put S Page on IR, sign CB Daniels
|
|
The Kansas City Chiefs placed safety Jarrad Page on injured reserve Wednesday.
Page is in his fourth year in the NFL and third as a starter for the Chiefs.
He made all 16 starts in 2007 and 2008.
In 53 career games (39 starts), Page has totaled 204 tackles, 10 interceptions
and 24 passes defensed. He posted 19 tackles in five games this season.
Additionally on Wednesday, the Chiefs announced they signed cornerback Travis
Daniels. He signed with Kansas City earlier in the year but was released prior
to training camp.
Over four NFL seasons with Miami (2005-07) and Cleveland (2008), Daniels has
126 tackles, three interceptions and 19 passes defensed in 51 games -- 26
starts.
