SI.com: Poe front and center as KC rookies report
|
It finally hit Dontari Poe that he's playing in the NFL when walked
into the locker room at the Kansas City Chiefs' practice facility.
There were the helmets. Bright red with that arrowhead logo on the side, as shiny as a child's new ball.
"It was like, `Yeah, I'm here now,''' Poe said Friday.
Now it's time to prove he belongs.
The former Memphis tackle was picked with the No. 11 overall
selection last month, a 350-pound stopper expected to fill the biggest
hole along the Chiefs' defensive line. The pick was widely panned given
Poe's lack of production in college, but his impressive physical skill
set means he might be the biggest boom-or-bust prospect in years.

SN: Kansas City Chiefs 2012 NFL Draft Review
|
Top Picks Analysis: General manager Scott Pioli's emphasis on building through
both lines was crystal clear in this draft, with the Chiefs utilizing their
first three picks on players who operate in the trenches. The plan began with
the selection of the polarizing Poe, an athletic freak with a massive frame
and superior strength who's remarkably light on his feet, to presumably anchor
the middle of the defensive front. Scouts have wondered whether his short-
armed build is best suited for a two-gap plugger, however, and his failure to
dominate at a lower FCS level has raised questions as well. full story...

Judge: Team draft needs: Kansas City Chiefs
|
|

The Kansas City Chiefs
are coming off their fourth losing season in five years, and
that's not good. But this is: They finished only one game out of
first in the AFC West, and they did it without their star running
back and star safety for most of the season, without their
starting quarterback for most of the second half and with twice as
many turnovers (28) as the year before. No, the
Chiefs aren't that far away. In fact, they won the AFC West only
two years ago and were in the middle of a division race last season
until quarterback Matt Cassel bowed out.
There is talent on this roster, and the needs aren't widespread.
But Cassel must stay in the lineup and return to his error-free
play of 2010, while the Chiefs must do a better job defending the
run and taking care of the ball. Or we're looking at another losing season.
