Covitz: Quirk in schedule works against Chiefs
|
|
The good news is the Chiefs are about to embark on three consecutive home games in December.
The bad news is the Chiefs will be giving up a little bit of their
homefield advantage (not that it has been so great the last couple of
years) to better-rested teams in all three of the games.
Each of the next three teams coming to Kansas City will have last
played on a Thursday night and will have three extra days of rest and
preparation for the Chiefs. continue reading...

Butter fingers: Chiefs' Charles must stop fumbling
|
|
Associated Press - December 2, 2009 1:04 PM ET KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Todd Haley is not happy when the subject of fumbling is brought up in connection with Jamaal Charles. The coach of the Kansas City Chiefs would rather focus on the contributions and rapid improvement of his second-year running back. Since Larry Johnson was released last month, Charles has seized the opportunity to put himself firmly in the Chiefs' future plans. And he's overtaken Johnson for the Chiefs' lead in yards rushing this season. Johnson left with 377 yards and Charles now has 406 - on 54 fewer carries. He did have a costly fumble during last week's loss to San Diego, however, something which has been a problem going back to his days as a Texas Longhorn. Copyright 2009 The Associated Press. Rose: Chiefs ask fans to wear #58 jerseys to Broncos game to honor Thomas
|
If you’re going to the Chiefs game against the Denver Broncos on
Sunday and you still have your #58 Derrick Thomas jersey in your
dresser drawer or closet, the Chiefs would like you to wear it.
In an announcement posted on the Chiefs official web site, www.kcchiefs.com,
the team is asking fans to help honor one of the truly great players in
the team’s history on Sunday and recognize his accomplishments both on
and off the field.
The team will officially retire Thomas’ #58 jersey during a halftime ceremony, and representatives from the Pro Football Hall of Fame will make a special presentation to the family of the legendary Kansas City linebacker.
Thomas, who tragically died on February 8, 2000 from injuries suffered
in a car accident in January of that year, was enshrined as part of the
Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2009 in Canton, Ohio on August 8th. He is the 10th player in the teams’ history to have his jersey retired. continue reading...

Williamson: Preparing for McDaniels-Cassel reunion
|
Matt Cassel was the smoking gun in the deterioration of the Broncos’ relationship with quarterback Jay Cutler that eventually led to Cutler being traded out of Denver.
We all know the back story: New Denver coach Josh McDaniels was
interested in reuniting with Cassel -- the two had success in New
England last season after Tom Brady
was hurt. Word broke that Cutler was being discussed in a deal that
would bring Cassel to Denver before Cassel was traded to Kansas City.
Cutler was upset and it began a five-week spat that ended up with him
being traded to the Bears.
Sunday, McDaniels and Cassel will be on the same field again – as opponents. Denver travels to Kansas City to face the Chiefs.
Tuesday, at his press conference, McDaniels talked about facing Cassel. Here are some highlights:

Tucker: Chiefs wondering if they've lost momentum
|
The Kansas City Chiefs thought the worst was behind them when they beat defending champion Pittsburgh. Maybe they were wrong.
The overtime upset of the Steelers on Nov. 22 was the Chiefs' second
victory in a row - their first two-game winning streak in two years.
Everybody said their confidence was soaring and that maybe, finally,
the long-struggling franchise and its rookie head coach had turned the
corner. continue reading...

PFT: Weis not likely to join the Chiefs
|
Though former Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis is regarded by many (us
included) as a candidate to become the offensive coordinator of the
Chiefs, a league source tells us that such a move isn't likely.
As the source explains it, there's some "disdain" between Weis and Chiefs G.M. Scott Pioli.
It flows, the source says, from their mutual time in New England.
"Both wanted to be [coach Bill] Belichick's favorite," the source said.
Meanwhile, coach Todd Haley insisted on Monday that the Chiefs are not one of the teams that has contacted Weis.
"I can say with clear conscience there's been no contact," Haley said, per the Associated Press. "The focus in this building is putting this team in the best possible
position to succeed each day and each week and that's where the focus
is. As far as staff goes, that would be something I would have -- that
would be a decision I would have to make." continue reading...

Chief's WR Chamber's mistress charged with stalking
|
|
A 27-year-old San Diego woman who had an affair with former Charger
Chris Chambers has been charged with 11 misdemeanor counts for
allegedly stalking and harassing the wide receiver’s family.
Stacey Bernice Saunders is due in court Jan. 19 for
arraignment, said Paul Levikow, a spokesman for the District Attorney’s
Office.
Chambers’ wife, Christina, told San Diego police in
April that Saunders was harassing her with phone calls. Two months
later, Chambers requested a temporary restraining order against
Saunders, saying she has “launched an incessant attack verbally on me,
and now my wife, her mother and sister.”

BR: Chiefs RB Charles Already Passes LJ as Season Rushing Leader
|
|
Well, that was quick. Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles passed Larry Johnson as the season rushing leader. Charles has 406 yards while LJ had 377 as a Chief. The amazing part of it? Charles did it in 54 less carries than LJ. Yep, 54. That's about two games worth for LJ when he was a Chief. continue reading... |
