BR: Featured Columnist Kansas City Chiefs: So What If She Ain't Pretty? (A Week 6 Love Story)

The Chiefs are kings of Missouri.

No touchdown, no problem. Head coach/offensive coordinator Todd Haley, quarterback Matt Cassel, and general manager Scott Pioli, the new triumvirate in Kansas City, earned their first victory by beating the Washington Redskins 14-6.

Game notes included, “one team earned a victory only because both teams can’t lose,” and, “KC blew key opportunities with great field position and a chance to take the lead late.”  However, since this is a joyous event for the deprived fans of the red and gold, this article will maintain a primarily positive tilt.

A few facets of the game emerged as key to the win.

PFT: Week Six Morning Aftermath: Chiefs 14, Redskins 6

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Bobby Wade turns to escape ...

The game itself wasn't pretty.  The aftermath was pretty damn compelling.

The 0-5 Chiefs somehow reversed a 2-28 slide by going to Washington and toppling the Redskins.

A 3-0 Kansas City lead at the half prompted coach Jim Zorn to finally yank quarterback Jason Campbell, and Todd Collins promptly hooked up on a deep ball with receiver Santana Moss.

Before too long, the Redskins led, 6-3.

But the Chiefs wouldn't go away.  They adjusted on the fly to Collins, shut the Redskins down the rest of the way, and kept scoring points.  With four field goals from rookie kicker Ryan Succop, the last man taken in the 2009 draft, and a late safety, the Chiefs nailed down an eight-point win.

PFT: Dorsey's on the block, but the Chiefs are acting like he isn't

With the trade deadline only a couple of days away, Gaines Adams might not be the only defensive lineman taken in the top five of a recent draft who makes a move.

Chiefs defensive lineman Glenn Dorsey is available, a league source tells us.

NFL Network's Jason La Canfora recently suggested that Dorsey might indeed be available.

"I'm also told by numerous league sources that the coaching staff in Kansas City isn't high on NT Glenn Dorsey, a former first-round draft pick," La Canfora recently wrote, via KCChiefs.com. "There's always a demand for nose tackles in this league, and the salary-cap ramifications wouldn't be a deterrent in dealing for Dorsey."

But Kent Babb of the Kansas City Star recently reported that Dorsey is back in the team's good graces after shedding 50 pounds.

PFT: "Nothing concrete" to Bowe rumors

The trade of Gaines Adams won't do anything to quiet down the trade rumors floating around the NFL, usually on talk radio stations.

One of the more far-fetched ones included the Ravens talking to Kansas City about Dwayne Bowe.  We're not sure exactly where the rumors came from -- we saw it here first -- but the rumor included Baltimore sending a second- and fifth-round pick for Bowe.

Old PFT buddy Aaron Wilson confirms there is "nothing concrete" to the rumors.

Williamson: When will the Chiefs' first victory happen?

FILE - In this Oct. 19, 2008 file photo, a Kansas City Chiefs ...

Thanks to the 2008 Detroit Lions, the idea of a team finishing the season 0-16 is no longer shocking and unbelievable.

While that club will live in infamy and will remembered as the first 0-16 in NFL history, forever cementing itself as the mayor of NFL Loserville, no one wants to join Detroit on the 0-16 list.

Yet, the Kansas City Chiefs are about a third of the way there. The Chiefs are 0-5 after blowing a game against Dallas on Sunday. In Week 2, Kansas City blew a game late to Oakland.

The Chiefs have played well enough in those games to almost win. But the team has not learned to finish the job under first-year head coach Todd Haley. That was the problem with former coach Herm Edwards and it was one of the reasons he was fired. The Chiefs won two games last season and they blew several games late. The Chiefs have lost nine straight games dating back to last season and 28 of their last 30.

PFT: Chiefs demote wide receivers coach

The Chiefs have fired demoted wide receivers coach Dedric Ward.

The move comes six weeks after Kansas City handed offensive coordinator Chan Gailey a pink slip.

Ward's replacement will be Richie Anderson, a former running back for the Jets.  Ward remains on staff, but in what capacity is unclear.

Williamson: Chiefs Must Improve Pass D

Kansas City -- Pass defense: The Chiefs would have beaten Dallas if it weren’t for a breakdown in the pass defense. Dallas receiver Miles Austin scored on two long touchdown passes in the fourth quarter and in overtime. Kansas City can’t win if it continues to have those types of breakdowns.
