Chiefs Sign T Eric Winston

The Chiefs just needed to convince Eric Winston that his ideal fit resided in Kansas City as well.

After more than a day of discussions, GM Scott Pioli, head coach Romeo Crennel and offensive line coach Jack Bicknell were able to seal the deal. Winston agreed to terms on an undisclosed contract with the Chiefs on Saturday.

Winston’s arrival doesn’t just fill a need for the Chiefs. It patches a gaping hole. The Chiefs entered free agency with offensive tackle undoubtedly ranking as the club’s biggest need from both a talent and depth perspective. Prior to signing Winston, the Chiefs had just two tackles under contract for 2012 and neither had NFL experience playing on the right side.

Jerricho Cotchery to visit the Chiefs early next week

Cleveland Browns v Pittsburgh Steelers

We previously mentioned that the Jets had interest in bringing free agent wide receiverJerricho Cotchery back to New York. They have competition.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily Newsreports that Cotchery is scheduled to visit the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday and Tuesday.

Several members of Kansas City’s coaching staff have coached against Cotchery in the AFC East, including former Patriots defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel and former Patriots wide receivers coach Brian Daboll. Crennel is now Chiefs head coach and Daboll coordinates the offense. Daboll was on the Jets’ staff as quarterbacks coach in 2007 and 2008, when Cotchery enjoyed two of his better seasons.

NFL Free Agency: Chiefs Have 'Significant Interest' In WR Jerricho Cotchery

Jerricho Cotchery played his last NFL game for the Jets against James Harrison and the Steelers in the AFC Championship. Now, he'll be lining up with Pittsburgh and QB Ben Roethlisberger.

The Kansas City Chiefs made sure their receiving corps is intact already this offseason with the use of the franchise tag on Dwayne Bowe. Along with Steve Breaston and the first round draft pick from 2011 in Jon Baldwin, the Chiefs have a strong trio for Matt Cassel or whoever the quarterback happens to be in KC in 2012. But there’s apparently room for more since the Chiefs are rumored to have “significant” interest in wideout Jerrico Cotchery.

Kansas City Chiefs photos

he Kansas City Chiefs once again have interest in a former Denver Broncos quarterback.

FOXSports.com has learned that Brady Quinn will soon be taking a free-agent visit.

Quinn served as Tim Tebow’s backup last season after Denver released former starter Kyle Orton. The Chiefs claimed Orton, who was 2-1 as a starter, but lost him to Dallas in free agency on Wednesday.

Quinn was scheduled for a free-agent visit Friday with theNew York Jets but that was canceled when the club signed Detroit’s Drew Stanton as the new backup for starter Mark Sanchez.

Raiders tell Wimbley he’s being released

And so he hits the open market, only three days after the market opened.  Don’t be surprised if he lands with the Chiefs.  Coach Romeo Crennel drafted Wimbley in 2006, when Crennel was head coach of the Browns.

Chiefs get Peyton Hillis on the cheap

Tennessee Titans v Cleveland Browns

As usual, the initial reports regarding the value of the contract signed by running back Peyton Hillis in Kansas City was overstated.  But given that the reports suggested a one-year, $3 million deal, it couldn’t have been overstated by much.

Per a source with knowledge of the contracts, Hillis receives a fully-guaranteed base salary of $1.4 million, along with a $1 million fully-guaranteed roster bonus that comes due over the weekend.

The only fluff comes from $400,000 in per-game roster bonuses.  If he has, say, strep throat and can’t play in a given game, he won’t earn $25,000.
