Matt Cassel Injury Update: Kansas City Chiefs await tests
|
|
It seems as though the Kansas City Chiefs have been plagued with injury as of late. According to latimes.com,
the worried and winless team launched a short work week on Sunday,
whilst they are waiting for medical tests on quarterback Matt Cassel,
as well as Brandon Flowers.
Cassel was seen to have limped off the field in Saturday night’s
14-10 loss against Seattle, after he was sacked on the third play. The
extent of his injury was not known at that time. And Brandon Flowers
hurt his shoulder early on in the first half. continue reading...

KC Chiefs 101: What are the 10 worst seasons in Kansas City Chiefs history?
|
|
The Kansas City Chiefs have
a winning history, coming out on top in more than 50 percent of the 761
games the team has played over its 49-year history. But that doesn’t
mean there haven’t been some terribly gloomy times along the way. The
1970s was arguably Kansas City’s worst decade of the five the Chiefs
have been in professional football, at least on paper. During the decade of the ‘70s,
the Chiefs won 66 games, lost 84 and played to two ties, a .430 winning
percentage. But the 15-year period between 1974 and 1988 was even more
dour. During those 15 years, Kansas City compiled a dismal record of
86-137, which works out to a .390 winning percentage. Moreover, 9 of
the Chiefs 11 worst seasons all-time came during this time period. The
1970s were the only decade in the Chiefs’ history in which the team did
not make more than one playoff appearance. continue reading...

PFT: Cassel x-rays negative
|
The good news for Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel is that x-rays on his injured left leg are negative.
The reality is that x-rays don't tell doctors much if anything about ligaments and cartilage.
So we know that Cassel's leg isn't broken. We don't know whether any ligaments are torn.
Though reports don't indicate that Cassel will have an MRI, we can't imagine why the Chiefs wouldn't rule out ligament tears. continue reading...

Chiefs quarterback Cassel leaves with injury
|
|
Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel (FSY)
left the field favoring his left leg after being sacked on the third
play of Kansas City's game against Seattle on Saturday night.
Cassel was sacked by Brandon Mebane (FSY)
on the first passing play. He appeared to have a problem with his left
leg, but came off the field unassisted before being replaced by Tyler Thigpen (FSY). A team spokesman said Cassel's return was questionable.
Cassel signed a long-term contract with a guarantee of $28 million after being acquired in an offseason trade with New England. continue reading...

Williamson: Cassel leaves game with leg injury
|
|
Kansas City quarterback Matt Cassel
has gone to the locker room with an apparent left leg injury after
being injured on a sack early in the game against Seattle on Saturday
night. There is no indication if the injury is serious or not.
Cleary, a major injury to Cassel would be devastating to the Chiefs.
Cassel was brought to Kansas City to be the team's franchise
quarterback. The team gave Cassel a contract extension this summer that
will pay him $40 million for the next three years. Let hope for everyone's sake in Kansas City that the injury is not serious. source... |

Cooper: Jaguars Trying to Trade for Chiefs' Backup QB Tyler Thigpen
|
Tyler Thigpen
went from third-team quarterback to the first team in the span of one
week last year. But even after he put together a pretty solid season as
the Chiefs fill-in starter, it looks like he's gone from starter back
to the third team this fall.
With Matt Cassel installed as the team's new franchise quarterback, and Brodie Croyle
apparently beating Thigpen out for the No. 2 job, Thigpen is slated to
be one of the most experienced No. 3 quarterbacks in the league, which
is why he's drawing plenty of trade interest. continue reading...

Babb: Larry Johnson says better supporting cast improves his attitude
|
|
Larry Johnson knows the line he’s walking, and he knows how close
he came this last offseason to crossing it. The Chiefs’ occasionally
unhappy, occasionally outstanding running back said Thursday that he
realized the team could have given up on him during a tumultuous series
of months. “If they wanted to get rid of me,” Johnson said Thursday, “they had a chance to get rid of me.” The
Chiefs held on to Johnson, whose attitude since last season’s finale
ranged from sour to desperate to optimistic — or something like it.
There’s no doubt that Kansas City needs Johnson’s rushing skills. He’s
a big, experienced back who still knows how to exploit weak defenses. A
healthy and motivated Johnson could help a Chiefs offense that has few
star players, and he also is an essential part of lifting some pressure
from quarterback Matt Cassel’s shoulders. It was the addition
of Cassel, and several other promising players, that helped improve
Johnson’s attitude, he said Thursday. He said the Chiefs’ blind
reliance last year on young players created a culture of losing — and
the belief that awful seasons are acceptable for a rebuilding team.
Johnson said Thursday that he never agreed with former coach Herm
Edwards on that philosophy. Now, Johnson said, the Chiefs’ locker room
is filled with known players, some of whom have won at the highest
level.

USA Today: Kansas City Chiefs Team Report
|
If there were any doubts that the Chiefs
reached a desperate stage in improving their wide receiver group, the
signing of Ashley Lelie should end those.
The duo of Scott Pioli and Todd Haley are doing
anything and everything they can to increase the talent level, and that
includes signing a guy that has played for four different teams in
seven seasons. Lelie has been one of the great first-round draft pick
under-achievers in this decade. He came out of the University of Hawaii
with speed, speed, speed, supposedly running the 40-yard dash in 4.27
seconds.
Seven years later, what does the 29-year old
Lelie bring the Chiefs? Does he still have his speed? Why will he
succeed in Kansas City when he was inconsistent in Denver and failed in
Atlanta, San Francisco and Oakland? Since he was traded away by the
Broncos during a preseason contract holdout, Lelie has played in 43
games and caught a total of 49 passes for 742 yards and three
touchdowns for three different teams.
Not exactly the recent resume of a difference maker the Chiefs so desperately need at the position.
"I think he's healthy and he's a little
different (style) than anything we have," said Haley. "He's a long,
lean guy with some speed, with some potential top end speed. I thought
it was a chance to get somebody in here that's a little different than
what we had." continue reading...
