BR: Dwayne, Say It Isn't So Bowe!
|
|

On paper, the stars appear to have aligned
for Kansas City Chiefs wide out Dwayne Bowe to break out of the mold of
a quality receiver, to an elite one.
Out with conserva-Herm, in with Air Haley. Exit ball hawking Tony Gonzalez. Enter emerging signal caller Matt Cassel.
Bowe is also entering the pivotal third year which history as shown
as a make or break period for the development of wide receiver talent.
Life is good for D. Bowe, right?
Screeeechhh!
Early depth charts out of River Falls, Wisconsin have Bowe pegged
with the third string after apparent lapses in concentration, continued
dropping of passes, and the wide receiver struggling with his weight
earlier in the offseason.
Devard Darling and Terrance Copper are listed as the starting wide
receivers. Not Bowe, Mark Bradley, Bobby Engram, or Amani Toomer. continue reading...

Babb: Believe it: Chiefs coach Todd Haley hasn't been inside Arrowhead Stadium since being hired
|
|

Chiefs coach Todd Haley said Wednesday that he hasn’t been inside Arrowhead Stadium since he was hired in February, saying he was preserving that experience for his first game. He’ll experience that Saturday, during Kansas City’s preseason opener against Houston. “I have not been in it,” Haley said. “I'm saving that.” continue reading... |

Teicher: Bowe making progress?
|
|
One of the things Todd Haley wants to see from Dwayne Bowe is to go
after the ball like it means something. Bowe had a hand in a Matt
Cassel interception in the intrasquad scrimmage over the weekend. The
cornerback, Travis Daniels, beat Bowe to the ball and it sure looked
like Daniels wanted it more than Bowe.
Haley said today he's seeing progress from Bowe in that regard. continue reading...

BR: If Kansas City's Depth Chart Stays, the Chiefs Are in Trouble
|
|

The Chiefs released a preliminary depth
chart on Monday, and there were a few surprises, even excluding Dwayne
Bowe playing with the third team offense.
For this team to be successful this season, there are a few key
players who need to play well. Unfortunately for Chiefs fans, most of
those players don't seem to be off to a good start.
Defense
Starting with the third overall pick this year, Tyson Jackson is
going to have to play up to his potential for this switch to the 3-4
defense to work out.
Even keeping in mind that defensive linemen traditionally take
longer than most to adjust to the NFL, Jackson must have at least as
good of a season as Glenn Dorsey did last year to be considered a good year for a rookie.
Drafting Jackson as high as the Chiefs did was solely to ease along
the switch to the 3-4 defense, and if he doesn't earn a starting spot,
the Chiefs organization missed badly on another high first round pick. continue reading...

Williamson: Three and Out: Chiefs
|
The Matt Cassel watch:
It's not a shocker that Cassel is the focal point of the Chiefs' camp.
He was acquired from New England with the hopes that he was more than a
one-year wonder as Tom Brady's
injury replacement. The Chiefs gave Cassel a fat deal that will pay him
more than $40 million in the next three years. From what I have heard
(I go to Kansas City's camp next week), Cassel has looked good in camp.
He was just average in a scrimmage last weekend. I think Cassel is
making strides and will end up being more than a serviceable
quarterback in 2009. continue reading...

AP: Kansas City getting a kick out of Succop
|
Ryan Succop has the leg and he probably has the Kansas City Chiefs' kicking job.
What Succop needs is consistency, and he'd better find it fast. Succop
was the last player taken in this year's NFL draft, and the last time
the Chiefs drafted a kicker, they cut him after the first game. Succop, who has already hit field goals of 58
and 53 yards in training camp, is being counted on to solve a long and
festering problem for the Chiefs. Their failure to find a good,
consistent kicker is a major reason they haven't won a postseason game
since Joe Montana was their quarterback.
Field position, particularly the past two seasons, has been a huge
problem for the Chiefs and Succop has shown a welcome ability to drive
kickoffs deep. That was one reason Connor Barth, the incumbent kicker,
was released a few days before camp began. continue reading...

Teicher: Shrinking injury list
|
|
Linebackers Demorrio Williams and Monty Beisel and running back
Jamall Charles returned to practice today, leaving the Chiefs with only
five injured players working out on their own.
Given the length and physical nature of Todd Haley’s practice
sessions, that’s a small number. It’s also a significant one to Haley
because his message is apparently taking hold. continue reading...

Teicher: Chiefs tell Bowe to stay quiet
|
That at least is what Dwayne Bowe said when asked today to talk about his predicament.
Since there's nothing he can say to better his situation, that's not
a bad position for him to take. If he says he's been working hard, is
with the program and doesn't agree with his benching, that won't go
over well with Todd Haley.
No, Bowe has just one way out of this mess and it's not by talking about it. It's by working at it. source...
