Three story lines
Who are these guys? The Colts are 2-2 for just
the fourth time in the past 12 years. They aren't used to this
position—not after getting off to at least 7-0 starts in four of the
past five seasons. It will be interesting to see how they responds to
early-season adversity. The veteran leadership needs to step up, and it
always has in the past.
Who are these guys (Part II)? The Chiefs
are the league's lone unbeaten team and off to their first 3-0 start
since 2003. They were 10-38 the past three seasons. Are they the real
deal? We'll see, but there's no question the Chiefs once again are
relevant under the direction of general manager Scott Pioli and coach
Todd Haley.
Running or not. The blueprint to beat the
Colts is all too clear: Run the football. That wears down the defense
and keeps QB Peyton Manning on the sideline. Jacksonville was effective
with that last Sunday, essentially limiting the Manning-led offense to
eight possessions. The Chiefs certainly have the wherewithal to control
the clock with RBs Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones. They've rushed for
455 yards and averaged 5.3 yards in three games. In their two losses,
the Colts have allowed 431 rushing yards and 5.6 yards per attempt.
