AP: Former Chief Scott Fujita Not a Gunther Cunningham Fan

It just occurred to me that if we had more quotes, I could write that headline with probably fifty different players' names in there.

In a well-written and interesting article from Michael Silver at Yahoo! Sports yesterday, former Kansas City Chief and current New Orleans Saints LB Scott Fujita's story was told.

Silver goes over how Fujita was adopted by a Japanese-American father and a Caucasian mother, prompting him to tell people growing up, "My name's Scott. I'm Japanese." The article hits on Fujita's passion for civil liberties; his time as "cannon fodder" for the Cal football team; and of course, his time with the Kansas City Chiefs. It's a good read. Check it out.

Six former Chiefs named to NFL 2000’s All-Decade Team

The NFL released their All-Decade team of the 2000's on Sunday and six former Kansas City Chiefs were on it. Four players made significant and historic contributions while in Kansas City, one other played for the team for two seasons and the final player never got on the field due to injuries.

Not surprisingly, tight end Tony Gonzalez (2000-08), guard Will Shields (2000-06), and tackle Willie Roaf (2002-05) made the team on offense. They were three key pieces to one of the most explosive offenses in NFL history during Dick Vermeil's years as coach.

SN: Offseason Outlooks: Kansas City Chiefs

Who's hot?

Jamaal Charles, K.C. ChiefsRB Jamal Charles. This breakout back led a few fantasy teams to a title in the second half of 2009, but will he be able to do it again in 2010? That will be the burning question for owners drafting near the end of the first round this year. Charles racked up 1,120 rushing yards on just 190 carries; no back had ever reached 1,100-plus yards with so few carries. Still uncertain about Charles' talent? In the final eight games, only Tennessee's Chris Johnson ran for more yards (1,047) and racked up more offensive yards (1,388) than Charles (968; 1,126). He'll be a risky pick, but Charles has the explosiveness and upside to make him worth the risk.

ESPN: Chiefs brings back former star Thomas as coach

Emmitt Thomas is coming home.

The Chiefs just announced the final three additions to their coaching staff. Headlining the list is Thomas, the former Chiefs star defensive back and Pro Football Hall of Famer. He will coach the defensive backs.

Thomas played for Kansas City from 1966-78. He is the team’s all-time leader with 58 interceptions. He was inducted into the team’s hall of fame in 1986. Thomas, who spent the past eight seasons in Atlanta, has coached for six NFL teams and now he comes home to where he enjoyed his greatest playing success.

Biggs: Chiefs Have Two New Coaches

The Kansas City Chiefs have made some big hires this offseason, adding Charlie Weis and Romeo Crennel to Todd Haley’s staff, but some important vacancies remained and the organization has made moves to fill them.

League sources tell the National Football Post that Antony Pleasant has been hired as the defensive line coach and Bernie Parmalee will join the team as the tight ends coach.

Pleasant is a 14-year NFL veteran who spent his final three seasons with the New England Patriots where general manager Scott Pioli was. Both Pleasant and Parmalee spent time with the New York Jets when Haley was on the scouting and coaching staffs there.

ESPN: Chiefs shake up coaching staff

The Kansas City Chiefs won't be bringing back defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast or two other assistant coaches next season.

The Chiefs made the announcement Thursday. Tight ends coach Bob Bicknell and wide receivers coach Dedric Ward also won't be retained.

Pendergast was hired as defensive coordinator last year only because Romeo Crennel wasn't available. Crennel accepted that job earlier this month, putting Pendergast out of the job.

A sick Tebow meets with Chiefs, Vikings and Panthers

Former Florida quarterback Tim Tebow has met at length with representatives from the Kansas City Chiefs, Minnesota Vikings and Carolina Panthers,  according to members of Tebow’s camp.

Tebow is working out this week in Mobile, Ala., as part of the Senior Bowl.

The meeting with Carolina was the most formal, a sit-down session with the coaching staff. New Chiefs offensive coordinator Charlie Weis also sat down with Tebow.

All three teams could be looking for a quarterback in the 2010 NFL draft. Minnesota might be without Brett Favre, and Jake Delhomme’s time at Carolina is dwindling.

AP: Chiefs FB Mike Cox Not Sure What's Next

Kansas City Chiefs FB Mike Cox was signed onto the Chiefs roster prior to the 2008 season. The obvious connection between he and the Chiefs was then offensive coordinator Chan Gailey, who coached Cox while at Georgia Tech.

Now, his contract is up and he's set to become a free agent.

He talked to his hometown news station, CBS 21 News, on Tuesday night.
