PFT: CHIEFS INTERESTED IN TRAVIS DANIELS
|
|

Competing for the same or similar players is something that was bound to happen since New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick and Kansas City Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli collaborated for so many years in New England. According to Albert Breer of SportingNews.com, both the New England Patriots and the Kansas City Chiefs are interested in free agent cornerback Travis Daniels. Daniels has played for the Miami Dolphins and the Cleveland Browns and played for former Dolphins coach Nick Saban at LSU. Plus, Daniels played for former Browns coach Romeo Crennel. And Crennel worked with Belichick and Pioli in New England. That’s a lot of connections for Daniels to call upon as he looks for a new NFL employer. source... Davis has been a part-time starter in his six seasons with Dallas
but has made his reputation mostly as a solid special teams player. source...

Simmons: Kansas City Chiefs: New Look Team Has Some Thinking To Do
|
|
This offseason has already brought a boatload of changes to the
Chiefs, who finished with an abysmal 2-14 record in 2008. Those changes
are sure to affect what the team plans to do with the third overall
pick in April's NFL Draft.
The changes include: firing head coach Herm Edwards, and bringing in former Arizona offensive coordinator, Todd Haley.
Haley is sure to have a lot of influence in what they do with the pick.
In Arizona, he brought an offensive team to the Super Bowl with two stellar wide-outs in Larry Fitzgerald, and Anquan Boldin.
So of course, it's a possibility he would want another one of those
wide-out duo's in Kansas City. Picking Crabtree would give him just
that.
Dwayne Bowe and Crabtree sure sounds great to me.
Another change that happened, was the trade that sent New England a
second round pick, and brought QB Matt Cassell, and veteran LB Mike
Vrabel to Kansas City.

Bonini: Impact Analysis: Matt Cassel, QB, Kansas City Chiefs
|
The trade makes sense from both angles, despite what some folks want to say.
The trade in question is the New England Patriots sending quarterback Matt Cassel and linebacker Mike Vrabel to the Kansas City Chiefs for a 2009 second-round pick. On the surface, it seems unfair. The Patriots
acquire the No. 34 pick in the draft for a soon-to-be 34-year-old
linebacker with an expiring contract and a mystery of a quarterback.
Cassel in KC
The Chiefs have been searching for a long-term quarterback option for some time now. They were able to get by with Trent Green at the helm for several years in early portion of this decade, but the Brodie Croyles of the world don't cut the mustard. Last season, the Chiefs rode the shoulder of scrappy young quarterback Tyler Thigpen, but his one win in 11 starts didn't impress new head coach Todd Haley and general manager Scott Pioli.
With the acquisition of Cassel, Pioli, formerly the vice president of
player personnel and director of player personnel of the Patriots, was
handed a parting gift, according to some.

Niners sign QB Huard
|
|

The San Francisco 49ers announced Wednesday the signings of linebacker Takeo Spikes and quarterback Damon Huard. Financial terms of the contracts were not released.
Spikes played all 16 games in 2008, including 13 starts, compiling 122 tackles, three interceptions, two forced fumbles and a sack. Spikes will participate in his 12th NFL season in 2009 after spending time with Cincinnati (1998-2002), Buffalo (2003-06), Philadelphia (2007) and San Francisco.
Huard spent the last five seasons with the Chiefs, and appeared in five games -- three starts -- for Kansas City in 2008. Overall last season, he completed 50-of-81 passes for 477 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions. In his career, he has played for Miami (1997-2000), New England (2001-03) and Kansas City (2004-08). source...

QB Huard pays 49ers a visit
|
|
Now that their flirtation with Kurt Warner is over, the 49ers turned
their attention to a more realistic "get" at the quarterback position
when they had 13-year veteran Damon Huard in for a visit on Wednesday. Huard, a free agent last with the Kansas City Chiefs, is presumably
being looked at in a backup capacity since the 49ers seem determined to
head into 2009 with Shaun Hill and Alex Smith competing for the
starting job in training camp. Huard will be 36 when training camp
begins.
In 12 NFL seasons spent with Kansas City (2004-08), New England
(2001-03) and Miami (1997-2000) Huard has played in 64 games, throwing
33 touchdown passes and 26 interceptions. Last season with the Chiefs
he completed 50 of 81 passes for 477 yards and 2 touchdowns, with 4
interceptions. Continue reading...

BR: Mike Vrabel's Book Shows Scott Pioli To Be Genius!
|
Who can deny that the literary shine of Mike Vrabel is the major
reason the Patriots sent him off to Kansas City? Like Toto and
Dorothy, he and Matt Cassel found themselves hounded out of the Emerald
City of Foxboro by a wicked witch.
Written by Ryan Miller, Luke Fickell, and former New England Patriot Mike Vrabel, The Hog Mollies and Pickle Pie Party is attributed to the “2nd-and-7 Foundation” out of Ohio, where farming and football is held higher than an elephant’s eye.
Illustrated by Jason Tharp, the eerie parallels to the situation of
Mike Vrabel can no longer be ignored in the best-selling book by the
former Patriot star.
Duke, the leader of the Hog Mollies, bears an uncanny resemblance to
Vrabel himself. The head Mollie always seems to have a football tucked
under his arm. There seems also to be more than a striking similarity
between Grandpa of the Hogs and Scott Pioli. Yes, even down to the
glasses and haircut.

USA Today: Herm Edwards eager to leap from sideline to ESPN airwaves
|
The question for anybody going straight from
competing in a sport to analyzing it on TV: Can you be candid about all
those old friends and foes?
And if you've coached: Will you see TV as just a pit stop until you can get back on the sidelines?
Herm Edwards, fired weeks ago as the Kansas City Chiefs' coach, makes his ESPN debut today on NFL Live.
He says he'll be "critical" but not "condescending." He won't rule out
returning to coaching but sounds resigned to having no chance of future
Gatorade baths: "I'm really going to put my heart and soul into this.
If this can take me for the rest of my life in football, I'm OK with
that."
After playing 10 NFL seasons, Edwards went 54-74
as a head coach of the New York Jets for five seasons and then three
with Kansas City - including coaching the Chiefs to a 2-14 record last
season. He's direct on whether his Chiefs quarterback, Tyler Thigpen,
will have a chance to keep that position now that the Chiefs got Matt
Cassel from the New England Patriots: "They didn't get Cassel to be the
backup." Continue reading...
