PFT: Competition for Crennel is coming
|
At that end of our post announcing Charlie Weis' hire in Kansas City, we mentioned that the next logical step would be hiring Romeo Crennel.
That move may be on its way.
A
few prominent NFL voices believe Crennel could indeed be joining Todd
Haley's staff. ESPN's Adam Schefter writes, "It's likely to be a New
England reunion: Now that Charlie Weis has agreed to work in Kansas
City, Romeo Crennel will not be far behind."
Mark Maske of the Washington Post writes: "Romeo Crennel could be next as defensive coordinator [In Kansas City]." continue reading...

CJ: Big win caps Chiefs' bad year
|
It was unseasonably warm the night of Oct. 25 when Larry Johnson
pulled up his Twitter account and unwittingly did the Kansas City
Chiefs a world of good.
The Chiefs had been clobbered 37-7 by San Diego earlier that day,
dropping to 1-6. Johnson had carried the ball 16 times for 49 yards
typical of what the running back had done all year for a puny,
struggling offense that still didn't have a rushing touchdown.
Posting that night on Twitter, Johnson poured out his frustration by
insulting head coach Todd Haley, making gay slurs and bragging about
how much money he was making. If it was a clever trick to get out of
Kansas City, it worked. Johnson was given his outright release.
Off the bench came second-year running back Jamaal Charles, who two
weeks later went for 103 yards in a win over the Raiders. The week
after that, he returned the opening kickoff 97 yards in a win over the
defending Super Bowl champion Steelers. continue reading...

5 Free Agents
|
|
The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Monday that the club has signed five reserve/future free agents: CB Jackie
Bates, DE Bobby Greenwood, RB Kestahn Moore (pronounced KEY-stahn), OL Jermail Porter and WR Chandler Williams.
Bates (5-10, 180) spent the entire 2009 regular season on the Chiefs practice squad after
originally entering the NFL as a rookie free agent with Kansas City. He played in 17 games (15 starts) at Hampton.
Greenwood (6-5, 278) was on the Chiefs practice squad for 16 games in 2009 after originally joining
the club as a rookie free agent. He was a four-year letterman at Alabama.
Moore (5-10, 214) entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with Denver in 2009 and spent the final
four games of the season on the Chiefs practice squad. He played in 53 games (21 starts) at Florida.
Porter (6-5, 310) originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with New England in 2009 and
was added to the Chiefs practice squad on December 2nd. He was an All-America wrestler at Kent State, posting a 119-43
career record.
Williams (5-11, 176) entered the NFL as a seventh-round draft pick (233rd overall) of Minnesota in
the 2007 NFL Draft. He has spent time on the practice squad with Miami (2007), Atlanta (2008) and Kansas City (2009).
He played in 41 games (26 starts) at Florida International.

Williamson Picks RB Charles as AFC West Player of the Week
|
It’s Jamaal Charles in a runaway.
Charles was brilliant against Denver as he charged a 44-24 Kansas City upset over Denver. The second-year tailback had 259 yards rushing on 25 carries. It set a Kansas City franchise rushing record and was 37 yards off the NFL record.
Charles ended the season with 1,120 yards rushing. He is a bright spot for Kansas City as it heads toward 2010.
He has breathtaking speed and showed Sunday he does not go down
easy. Sunday may have been the start of something very big in Kansas
City. source...

BR: Jamaal "The Mauler" Charles
|
|
NFL running back, (6'0+, 220lbs) no, how about
5'10", 180-200lbs. Quick, fast, versatile, balanced, and durable.
Well, thats what you get out of a Jamaal Charles, a young and very much
improved, statistically speaking, running back for our Kansas City
Chiefs.
For the last 5 Weeks this proven running back is putting numbers up
just like his football twin, Chris Johnson. The hair, build, and the
package of running talent. In fact, he is second behind Chris Johnson
for rushing yards, in the past several weeks.
Watching the game today verse the Broncos, I was amazed by the moves
Jamaal demonstrated and how easy he is making it look. Larry
who! Everything seemed to click for the Chiefs who now have ended a
long season of what ifs, who can carry this impressive win into next
year, without a running back controversy. continue reading...

Williams: Jamaal Charles takes charge in Kansas City
|
There were times Jamaal Charles
wondered if the Kansas City Chiefs ever would give him a chance. The
lowest point came in Week 2 when he was inactive for a home game
against the Raiders. "I just was like I know I can be better than
this; I know I can play better; and I know I'm a good player," Charles
said in a telephone interview this week. "It was just hurtful that I
saw my name on the inactive list, but it really woke me up." It
still took Larry Johnson being released and Kolby Smith going on
injured reserve for Charles to move to the top of the depth chart.

ESPN: Haley: I wouldn't disrespect fans
|
|
Accused of making an obscene gesture to a fan, Kansas City Chiefs coach Todd Haley says such a thing is not in his character. Fans
were abuzz Wednesday over an accusation leveled Tuesday night through a
Kansas City TV sportscaster. The fan, who was not identified by the
sportscaster, said Haley flipped him off while walking into the tunnel
right after Sunday's 41-34 home loss to Cleveland. continue reading...

Rose: Settle down, Chiefs fans, Haley’s not going anywhere
|
Watching Todd Haley's press conference yesterday after the 41-34 loss to
the Cleveland Browns, my overwhelming feeling was that I was seeing a
first-year head coach completely overwhelmed with the debacle he's got
on his hands.
(If you want to watch a few minutes of the press conference, view it on the Chiefs web site here.)
But in the wake of a historically bad performance against Cleveland,
and the fact that this team is probably not going to win either of its
last two games, many fans are crying for Haley's head after the first
year. Even our rotund columnist for the Kansas City Star wrote as much
in the most thinly-veiled call for a coach's head on Monday. continue reading...
